Dr. Tankersley is a native of Statesboro, GA. He attended Southern Adventist University in Chattanooga, TN where he received a bachelor’s degree in Biology, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He was awarded a Health Professions Scholarship from the United States Air Force and attended Loma Linda University School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree. He was selected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society during his senior year in medical school.
Following medical school, Dr. Tankersley did his orthopedic residency at the Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Upon completion of his residency, he did a fellowship in hip and knee replacement surgery at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. After his fellowship, Dr. Tankersley was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS where he served as the Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery until he completed his service obligation to the USAF in 1999. He then went into private practice in Concord, NC from 1999 until 2009, moving back to South Georgia after ten years of practice in Concord.
Dr. Tankersley currently lives back on his family’s farm outside of Statesboro, GA. His practice is focused on hip and knee replacement with a special interest in anterior hip replacement.
