Physical & Occupational Therapy
Whether you are recovering from surgery, managing a chronic condition, or working to get back to daily life after an injury, physical and occupational therapy can make a meaningful difference in your recovery. Optim Medical Center-Tattnall in Reidsville and Optim Medical Center-Screven in Sylvania offer comprehensive PT and OT services for patients across southeast Georgia, with inpatient and outpatient care available at both facilities.
Our licensed therapists work closely with your care team to build a treatment plan around your specific diagnosis, goals, and timeline. From post-operative rehabilitation to chronic pain management, we are here to support your recovery every step of the way.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy focuses on restoring movement, reducing pain, and rebuilding strength and function after injury, surgery, or illness. Our physical therapists evaluate each patient individually and develop treatment plans designed to address the root cause of their condition — not just the symptoms.
Physical therapy at Optim is available for a wide range of conditions, including:
- Post-operative recovery following orthopedic, spine, or joint replacement surgery
- Neck and back pain, including spinal stenosis and disc-related conditions
- Neurological conditions, including stroke, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis
- Sports and athletic injuries
- Joint pain and arthritis
- Tendinitis and overuse injuries
- Plantar fasciitis
- Balance, vestibular, and mobility issues
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy helps patients regain the ability to perform the activities that matter most in daily life — at home, at work, and in the community. Our occupational therapists address functional limitations caused by injury, surgery, neurological conditions, and chronic disease, developing individualized plans to help patients rebuild independence.
Occupational therapy at Optim may address:
- Post-surgical recovery and upper extremity rehabilitation
- Fine motor skill restoration
- Activities of daily living following injury or illness
- Adaptive techniques and equipment recommendations
Outpatient occupational therapy is available at Optim Medical Center-Tattnall. Inpatient occupational therapy is available at both OMC-Tattnall and OMC-Screven.
Sports Medicine Therapy
Our sports medicine therapists work with athletes and active patients at every level — from student athletes to weekend warriors to working adults with physically demanding jobs. Treatment focuses on returning patients to full function safely and efficiently, with a plan built around their specific sport, activity, or physical demands.
Specialized Therapy Programs
Our therapists are trained in a range of condition-specific rehabilitation programs designed to support patients at every stage of recovery.
Joint Replacement Therapy
Patients recovering from hip, knee, shoulder, or other joint replacement surgery receive structured rehabilitation designed to restore range of motion, rebuild strength, and support a safe return to normal activity. Our therapists work in coordination with Optim's orthopedic surgeons to ensure continuity of care throughout the recovery process.
Spine Therapy
Our spine rehabilitation program addresses conditions of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, post-surgical recovery, and chronic neck and back pain. Treatment plans are individualized to each patient's diagnosis and functional goals.
Extremity Therapy
Specialized rehabilitation for injuries and conditions affecting the upper and lower extremities, including the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot. This includes post-surgical recovery, fracture rehabilitation, and treatment of soft tissue injuries.
Advanced Treatment Options
Our physical therapy teams offer specialized treatment techniques that are not widely available at other area providers. These services are offered as part of a comprehensive PT treatment plan.
Dry Needling
Dry needling uses a thin monofilament needle to target trigger points and areas of pain or dysfunction throughout the body, promoting increased blood flow and a decreased pain response. It is particularly effective for patients with chronic or persistent pain conditions that have not responded fully to other conservative care.
Conditions commonly treated with dry needling include:
- Chronic neck and low back pain
- Tendinitis
- Plantar fasciitis
- Cervicogenic and tension headaches
- Myofascial trigger points and referred pain
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training
(Only available at Optim Medical Center-Tattnall)
Blood Flow Restriction training uses a specialized cuff applied to the arm or leg to restrict venous blood flow during exercise, while allowing oxygenated blood to continue entering the muscle. This causes the muscle to fatigue and respond as it would under heavy loads — building strength and muscle mass at a fraction of the weight, with significantly less stress on joints, tendons, and healing tissue.
BFR is used with a wide range of patients, including those recovering from surgery who are not yet cleared for high-load exercise, patients working to prevent muscle loss during periods of limited activity, and those who have hit a plateau with standard rehabilitation.
Mechanical Traction
(Only available at Optim Medical Center-Tattnall)
Mechanical traction delivers consistent, controlled force to the cervical or lumbar spine using a traction table, decompressing spinal joints, improving mobility, and reducing pain. Treatment settings are individualized to each patient's diagnosis and adjusted over the course of care.
Mechanical traction is particularly effective for patients with:
- Cervical or lumbar spinal stenosis
- Chronic neck or low back pain that has not responded to other conservative treatment
- Radiating pain or symptoms consistent with nerve root compression
