We are thrilled to introduce two outstanding orthopedic doctors who have joined the medical staff at Optim Health System, bringing their expertise and passion for patient care to our community. Let’s get to know them better!
Jay B. Cook, MD – General Orthopedics
Optim Orthopedics’ Dr. Jay B. Cook’s journey to becoming an orthopedic surgeon is nothing short of remarkable. With nine years of dedicated service as a U.S. Army Orthopaedic Surgeon, including a role as the Chief of Orthopaedic and Podiatry Surgical Services at Winn Army Community Hospital in Fort Stewart, GA, Dr. Cook has honed his surgical skills to perfection. He even had the privilege of being the designated physician for the 1st Battalion Army Rangers at Hunter Army Air Field, showcasing his commitment to excellence.
His extensive military experience allowed him to develop expertise in sports medicine and trauma procedures. Dr. Cook is well-equipped to treat a wide range of injuries, from hand to shoulder and from foot to hip, utilizing both arthroscopic and open surgical approaches.
A true Southern at heart, Dr. Cook was born in Texas but fell in love with the South when his father was stationed at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, GA. It was there that he first witnessed surgery performed by his father and felt a calling to become a surgeon. He pursued his dream diligently, earning his BA degree in Religion from Furman University before joining the U.S. Army prior to medical school.
Dr. Cook’s commitment to excellence is evident in his qualifications, including being a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He has trained under some of the nation’s leading experts in sports medicine and arthroscopic procedures, and his research has been published in medical journals.
We are honored to have Dr. Cook as part of our team, and we look forward to the exceptional care he will provide to our patients. He will hold clinic in Hinesville (Monday AM), Reidsville (Tuesday AM), Baxley (Wednesday and Friday AM) and Brunswick (Thursday AM).
