An area that creates challenges when entering events into RL Datix is determining what severity level to assign. OHS utilizes the MERPS Scale. Originally adopted for medication errors, the MERPS scale is used nationally to classify errors according to severity and outcome. It is sometimes called a Risk Score. The MERPS scale provides a standard language to assist in classifying events, incidents, or any event which is not consistent with the routine care of a patient or circumstance that threatens the physical safety and well-being of patients or individuals associated with OHS.
