Perioperative Nurses Week is November 10-16, 2024! This special week focuses on the achievements of perioperative nurses. These nurses handle patient care before, during and after surgical procedures. Perioperative nurses contribute so much to the medical field and deserve to be celebrated.
Perioperative nurses have an important responsibility to maintain a sterile environment for the patient and surgical team during any surgical procedure and many times the multiple roles they perform may get overlooked or not fully understood by some.
Perioperative nurses are the primary advocates of patient care, with a more hands-on approach than doctors can manage. As these nurses are present for the procedure from end to end, they stay aware of everything the patient needs and ensure they get the attention they need.
Perioperative nursing takes dedication, skill, acuity to any changes, sincere compassion and care for others, and emotional stability (as it can be very stressful at times if a surgical procedure does not go as planned and the patient’s life is at stake). However, the position of a perioperative nurse offers so many rewards and each one deserves recognition and praise for all the hard work and continued commitment to patient safety that is conducted each and every day.
Optim Medical Center-Screven is excited to recognize our perioperative nurses for the commitment and dedication they show to patients, families and co-workers. A big thank you to Connie McLeod RN, Christi Guhl LPN, and Nikki Bazemore RN (OR Supervisor)!
